Steve's Diplomacy House Rules

(1) Interpretation

(a) Rules Lawyering is permitted and encouraged with respect to the official rules of the game, but you are intended to follow the spirit of these house rules.

(b) The general rules of Diplomacy, except for the obvious modifications necessary for email play, shall apply.

(c) Except where they conflict with these rules, the general rules of email Diplomacy shall apply.

(2) Deception of the GM

No deceiving the GM.

(3) Correspondence to be entered into

(a) Players are encouraged to forward or cc. any diplomatic correspondence to the GM.

(b) [Repealed]Any player who fails to email at least four other players and have forwarded or cc'd these emails to the GM in Spring 1901 shall be deemed not to have submitted valid orders.

(4) Rights reserved

(a) The right of the GM to be secure in his person, house, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.

(b) Once orders, emails, texts, etc. are in the GMs hands, they are sacrosanct. This includes, but is not limited to: no screenwatching, no password guessing, no taking advantage of logged-in computers.

(5) Adjudication for retreats and builds

Retreats and adjustments will adjudicated immediately with the first orders received.

(6) Adjudication for moves

Moves will not be adjudicated until after the deadline. You may be able to submit orders later, and the GM will make a reasonable attempt to get some orders off you before declaring No Moves Received.

(7) Safety [Repealed]

High-visibility clothing (i.e. safety orange) to be worn at all times while playing, including while reading these rules.

(8) Replacement Players

If a player fails to submit orders in two movement phases, the player may be replaced if the GM believes the player is likely to continue failing to submit orders. Replacement players will normally be taken from people waiting to play in future games, or previous players of good character and reliability.

(9) Privacy Policy

The GM will take all reasonable efforts not to disclose

  1. any information given to the GM in explicit confidence
  2. any forwarded diplomatic correspondence
  3. any requests for an explanation of the rules that has a definite and obvious answer, and does not require judgement on the part of the GM
  4. any submitted moves
  5. any discussion of a player's strategy or plans

After a request from Kirk, and since the rules are unclear on whether it is allowed: This means you can't disband a unit and rebuild it at home, or trade in an army for a fleet or vice-versa.
